Borough of Barnsley’s elite swimmers who qualified for the North East Regional Championships were put through their paces at the weekend at Ponds Forge. Medals were brought home courtesy of Freddie Cook-South (11) Georgia Lee (17) who won a gold medal and silver in their respective 50m events. Club Spokesperson Adrian Wightman said “One again the Barnsley swimmers, the underdogs, went to the regionals with a can do attitude. This again has been displayed by the multiple top 10 finishes, personal bests and the medals we secured. The club send huge congratulations to our regional champion Freddie who smashed his life best time by over 2 seconds to secure gold. Georgia gave a life best swim and in a tense final was pipped to second place by only 0.07 seconds.” The team comprising of Oscar Lugton, Lily Knowles Millie Herbert, Lucas Morton, Louie Ennis, Oliver Austin, Freddie Cooke – South, Harry Austin, Harry Tupman, Poppy Pearson, Dimosthenis Magoulas Georgia Lee, Roman Wallace, Cody Ingram, Millie Northrop and Myles Tupman secured multiple top 10 finishes through the weekend. The wider squad continues to train with expectations high for the upcoming Spenborough Bonfire Bash being held next weekend as well as our own Christmas Sprint Gala on the 10th December
