Occupation: Communication and Administration Manager Position on Committee: Club Membership Officer What i do: I am responsible for a wide range of activities related to the arranging and managing of memberships to the club be it swimmers or volunteers / officials I am also a qualified Team Manager a How long do you spend being these role: It varies month on month. About 45 minutes per new member & a couple of additional hours each month on other admin jobs. Plus approx 15 hours a month in January & February at membership renewal time. What's the best thing about the roles: The best thing is definitely getting to meet all the new members & their families at training & meets and watching them progress through the squads. Favourite Event: I love the Summer Sizzler. The Hawaiian theme makes it a really fun day What do you do to relax: I have a room dedicated to my record breaking Tupperware collection. I have pieces from all over the world. the largest item is 1.5m tall the smallest item 1 cm. i just love sitting an looking at it as well as stacking and restacking it. The Perfect Day: As a (swim) parent to two life can be pretty hectic but I love reading, eating out, walking our dog, cooking and visiting new places with my family.

Borough of Barnsley swimmers travelled east to Scarborough this weekend for Scarborough Swimming Club’s Summer Seaside Splash. With coach Greg Lugton at the helm along with a number of team managers the 46 swimmers won a total of 32 gold medals, 35 silver medals and 39 bronze with a total number of 15 “too fast” medals.
Club Spokesman Adrian Wightman said “The swimmers were very excited to be back at Scarborough for this great event, the last time being 2019. The number of lifetime bests and medals is testament to the grit and determination that our swimmers both train and compete with.” The event, run over 3 days, had a party atmosphere with swimmers (and parents) taking part in dancing and jovial behaviour during the event. The list of medal winners is below. The following swimmers missed out on medals but managed lifetime bests Evie Blessed, Callum Cadman, Davieleigh Farmery, Alice O’Keefe, Lily O’Brien , Jeannie Roberts, Ruby Severn and Naomi Wakeling. It was also Ella Minougue’s last gala for BoBSC before moving onto pastures new. I am a qualified Team Manager, and also Assistant Secretary for Yorkshire Swimming Association How long do you spend being these roles: It varies from week to week. It can be anything between 2-10 hours a week. What's the best thing about the roles: Contributing to something that enables our swimmers do what they love. Favourite Event: I enjoy our galas most - I love seeing the camaraderie and friendships amongst the swimmers, and seeing them wearing all their medals at the end of the day. Occupation: Senior Trainer/Assessor for Health and Education Apprenticeships Officials officer Position on Committee: Officials Officer What i do: Coordinating officials for our own galas to ensure we have sufficient numbers to run the galas. I am Also an approved officials trainer and am currently training as a referee. How long do you spend being these roles: The number of hours varies depending on the number of galas...around 8 hours a month on average. What's the best thing about the roles: Being part of the team who make it possible for swimmers to achieve their goals. What could be better than seeing the kids enjoy their sport. Occupation: Cardiac Physiologist Position on Committee: Volunteer Co-ordinator & Club Welfare Officer (CWO) What i do: I help to co-ordinate the volunteers for the summer sizzler and Christmas sprint and other BOBSC events. As CWO I complete DBS checks and work with the committee / coaches dealing with welfare of the swimmers In addition I have recently become a qualified Timekeeper and Turn Judge. How long do you spend being these roles: At busy times a couple of hours a week contacting volunteers and organising DBS checks. What's the best thing about the roles: Working with other parents to provide a safe and secure environment for our swimmers and enjoyable galas that we host Favourite Event: BOBSCARS (The club's Presentation Evening held in December) How do you relax: really enjoy crocheting and can often been seen at poolside with a blanket on the go. The Perfect Day: Waking up in the caravan, walking on the beach with Alyssa and the dogs then chilling out on a campsite in the afternoon regardless of the weather Name: Claire Wightman

In addition I am one of the Team Managers who support the coaches and swimmers at galas. How long do you spend being Treasurer: In quiet times in the year 4 hours a week, busy times of the year 12 hours a week. What's the best thing about the role: The best thing about the role is seeing the development of the club and the success of our swimmers. Favourite Event: our galas, they are exhausting but seeing 400 kids swim and know we achieved a successful gala day is why I volunteer for the club. How do you relax: I love knitting, a perfect day would be sat in the garden in the sunshine with my knitting creating something. Name: Steve Wragg
Occupation: Company Director Position on Committee: Chair (As in chairperson, not a chair) What i do: I’m Chair of the Management Committee of BoBSC which means I’m responsible for the smooth running of the club and the liaison with BPL. I attend regular meetings with Swim England to make sure we are up to date with their regulations and policies. I’m also a qualified Timekeeper and Team Manager. How many hours a month do you spend being a chair: It takes about 10 hours a month to do the role. What's the best part of the role: The best thing about the role is seeing the development of the club and the success of our swimmers. Favourite Event: My favourite event is Presentation Night when the kids have a great time and pick up their rewards for all the hard work they do over the year. How do you relax: My favourite way of relaxing is reading. I'm not sure what a perfect day would be but in a swimming context I really enjoy watching our teams compete and celebrate with them when they do well 41 Borough of Barnsley Swimmers took part in Rotherham Metro's Springtime 50m gala at Ponds Forge over the weekend.
Taking a total of 26 medals and multiple best ever times with support from Club A2 squad coach Joanne Archer and various poolside volunteers the meet was a huge success

The club took 9 swimmers who qualified for the stringent entry times. Women’s Club Captain Leni Valentine Bull secured 3 final positions in her favoured Breaststroke in the 50m, 100m and 200m. she won a bronze in the 200m and a silver in the 100m and narrowly missed out on bronze in the 50m breaststroke.
Meanwhile Dan Menzer, Blaine Underwood and Cody Ingram secured final places with Daniel coming 6th in the 800m freestyle, and Blaine taking 8th place in the 50m fly. Cody, like Leni, secured 3 finals for the 50m, 100m and 200m in Butterfly achieving 8th in the 200m and 9th in the 50m and 100m Other swimmers representing Barnsley were Millie Northrop, Georgia Lee and Ella Minogue, Roman Wallace and men’s club captain Noah Wragg Press Officer for the club Adrian Wightman said “Despite the qualifying entry times being very fast the 9 swimmers from the club put their all into their swims. It was great to see BOBSC bring some silverware back to Barnsley as well courtesy of Leni. We hope that our younger swimmers will continue to be encouraged by the grit and determination shown by these (9) swimmers.” |
