Borough of Barnsley competed in the final Yorkshire Championships of the season this weekend taking part in the 50m sprints, the 800m Freestyle and the teams event at Ponds Forge, Sheffield. The club took 33 swimmers to the event and succeeded with 10 top 10 finishes in the sprints / 800m and 2 top 10 finishes in the teams events; 8th in the women’s 15/16 yr 200m Medley and a 9th place in the Men’s A team 13 over 200m Freestyle. Cody Ingram 3rd in the 16 years 50 fly & 9th in 50m Breaststroke Alexander Matze 5th in the 10/11 50 breaststroke Harry Tupman 7th in the 13years 50 breaststroke Georgia Lee 10th in the 17/overs 50 breaststroke Lucas Morton 5th 50m backstroke & 5th 800m Freestyle Oliver Austin 6th 50m Breaststroke Millie Northrop 7th 50m fly Head Coach Carly Herbert said “this was the most successful Yorkshire Championships we have had at long course (50m). its been a tough couple of years with breaks for the Pandemic and having to rebuild stamina and strength back up but all the swimmers swum amazingly well. We have lost count of the seasonal best and personal best times that have been achieved”
Club Press Officer Adrian Wightman said “A great Yorkshire season for the club with all swimmers putting 100% effort in. We are really proud of their achievements and look to build on this success in the upcoming Barnsley Minors League as well as in other competitions. Borough of Barnsley Swimming Club’s Yorkshire competed at the Yorkshire Swimming Associations 2022 Group Championships last weekend. With entry times set at a high standard, the 100 swimmer club that trains across the borough, turned out a total of 26 swimmers eligible for over 75 events.
The club brought home 19 top ten finishes including 2 silver medals by girls captain Eleanor Valentine-Bull who secured second spot in the 16 yrs 100m and 200m breaststroke. Other top ten finishes were obtained by
