Borough of Barnsley Swimming Club, BOBSC, took part on the Alec James Memorial gala at Scunthorpe earlier in January. A team of 11 swimmers took part in this annual gala, brining together clubs aligned to the Barnsley Minors League.
Medals were secured by Daniel Riley – Gold 50m Backstroke Obra Filip – Bronze 50m Backstroke Autumn Davis – Bronze 50m Butterfly Lola Wooler – Bronze 50m Backstroke, Breaststroke & Freestyle Sam Guettat – Silver 50m Breaststroke, Bronze 50m Backstroke Rebekah Jones – Bronze 50m Butterfly Kiera Tiggardine – Bronze 50m butterfly Swimmer Rebekah Jones reported “I was shocked to win a bronze medal in 50 fly knowing how hard it has been to improve this stroke. It has always been difficult to swim fly but over many months with the support and advice from coach Julie Rice and lots of hard work ,sometimes quite painful , I have been able to place 3rd and set a new personal best.” Club spokesman Adrian Wightman said “Yet again the BoBSC swimmers have put 100% effort into a gala with some awesome swims resulting in multiple lifetime best times and a good number of top 6 finishes as well as haul of medals” Other swimmers who took part were Abigail Riley, Millie Herbert, Francesca Cresswell, Joshua Nortcliffe, Alex Tiggardine, Ashton Wooller, Faith Benson, Alice O’Keefe, Mia Howarth, Evie Blessed, Elena Standeven, and Lily O’Brien.
