3 swimmers from The Borough of Barnsley Swimming Club (BOBSC) were part of the 250 strong volunteering team at the Citi Para Swimming World Series that took place in Sheffield, this weekend (16-19 March).The event was a tremendous success with Great Britain and Brazil grabbing the spotlight and maximum medals in the third leg of the Citi Para Swimming World Series.
The volunteers witnessed some record breaking swims as welling meeting Para swimmer and Strictly star Ellie Simmonds. The BOBSC team consisted of Chloe Etheridge, Alyssa Warren and Lola Wooler. Chloe said “It was an amazing opportunity to volunteer on the Events team. It was an inspiration to support behind the scenes of such a prestigious international event.” Alyssa Said "It was amazing to be part of this event, watching how the different swimmers adapted in different ways to achieve fantastic swims. It was very inspiring and shows that anyone can gain achievements despite disabilities " Lola Said “As a competitive swimmer I understand the hard work that goes on with training and the commitment of all coaches and helpers, and parents. I wanted to give something in return and thought this was an excellent opportunity to do so. I was inspired, humbled and amazed by the talent I saw and this has encouraged me to keep training, and have faith in myself”. Club Spokesman Adrian Wightman said “Once again our swimmers have excelled outside of the pool. It’s no easy task volunteering and taking part in an event like this and everyone within BOBSC is very proud that Chloe, Alyssa and Lola took part and represented BOBSC on the international stage. The competition will take place at the Manchester Aquatics Centre. Manchester 2023 will be the third time the World Championships is held in Great Britain following Glasgow 2015 and London 2019. The BOBSC swimmers were in action at Sunday at the Doncaster Dartes Mad March Meet. A total of 26 swimmers ventured to Adwick for the event supported by Coach Julie and Team Managers Claire and Linda.
